"How-To" - Whip

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

wat the easyest way 2 do whips?

The secret to a whip starts well before you even hit the jump! Keep this in mind.

When you're approaching the jump, depending on which way you like to whip your bike (Generally most people whip to the right hand side) You should approach the jump to the side of where you are normally going up. So you have the line up the ramp where you jump normally, If you want to whip, you should stick just to the side of the line, preferably about 6 inches either side.

As you approach, your coming in off the side of the normal line and when you start to hit the ramp, simply turn the bike back into the middle of the ramp. When your about halfway up the ramp, then begin to turn your body to the left hand side, so that the bike will start to slide out to the right hand of the ramp. This means that as soon as you leave the ramp, you will be already in a whipped position, which means you don't have to really man-handle the bike. This is how the pro's get their whips up so high, the further they twist their body up the ramp, the bigger their whips will be.

Once you're in the air, use your legs to control the bike. When beginning whips, don't go to big, just keep it within your limits. Just twist your body a fraction to the left, and when you feel you've whipped enough for your liking... Turn your body back in towards the bike to center the bike. Use your legs also to pull the back end of the bike back towards a "center line"

You have to Imagine that the bike is riding a centre line all through the jump. When you want to land, remember to bring the bike back to centre to make sure of the landing.

If for some reason your body movement can't bring the bike back centre, give the throttle a "Panic Rev". This will help bring the bike back into the centre also.

So you've got the idea for getting the bike whipped out, and you would like to get the bike flatter?

Remember the first thing I said... It all depends on how you approach the ramp and how much you turn the bike up the ramp.

Come into the ramp further to the left or right from the centre line than you would for smaller whips. Once you've hit the ramp, turn your body as hard as you can to either side to slide the bike out up the ramp. Hopefully this will send you out quite flat as soon as you leave the ramp.

Now once you're in the air, body control is most important. To flatten the bike out in the whip, lean your body to the side as far as you can, and try to look downwards. This will pull the front of the bike down, whilst the back of the bike will still be in the process of coming up.

Once your flat, you really need to use your legs to bring the bike back down and into a centre position. Whilst doing this you will more than likely need to give the bike a good rev in the air to help do this. Point your head up and into the direction of the landing and your body will help the bike track back into the centre for a nice smoothe landing
