Ollie
The ollie is the basis of almost every trick there is. The ollie is performed by a number of fairly simple steps:
1. Stand on your board. You should have one foot on the tail (back) of your board. The other foot goes in the middle. Simple enough? Just wait.
2. Hit your tail. This is the gentle way of saying smash your tail into the ground with most or all of your might.
3. As you are "smashing", jump into the air off your smashing foot.
4. Slide your front foot up the board.
5. Lift up your back foot into the air.
TIP!!! Both of your lifting feet should come up at pretty much the same time. Your back foot should follow your front foot upward.
TIP!!! A common mistake is not to lift up your back foot and keep it straight. It is important that you do so.
6. Get the board level in the air. Do this by catching up your back foot with your front foot.
7. Stay on your board and land. When you come down bend your knees to cushion your landing.
Congrats. You did it. It seems tough but keep your chin up, practice, practice, practice, and you'll do okay. If you think you are learning slow, just... don't think it any more. These things take time for everyone.
Ollie Down A Gap
This is used anywhere from a driveway to a twenty-stair gap.
1. Ride moderate speed and put your front foot closer to the bolts then you would as a normal flat-ground ollie.
2. Next, ollie right before you go down the object, if you do this too early you'll land on it, too late and you will get no ollie at all.
3.Make sure you don't over slide your front foot or the board will go flying out in front of you .
4. A lot of people are scared they will crash when they do this, so as long as your feet and weight are above the board you will be ok.
*TIP* Do your very best to stay crouched on the board with your knees bent, if you don't you'll fall right off at the landing.
Backside 180 (180 Ollie)
When you ollie, you spin 180's backside. When you do a trick backside your back is facing forward in the direction you are moving.
To do a 180, you ollie, but as you pop the tail, start spinning. You should be at 90 degrees when your ollie is at its peak. Landing can be hard at first, just do your best to keep your eyes on the board and keep your momentum going.
The quicker you can get the board around the better, once you can land the board almost every-time, work on getting it higher.
