Young Sam Trend-Beacon first saw Honda FMX star Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams perform in 2003 at the Bendigo Agricultural show.
He told his mother there and then that he wanted be just like Bilko when he grew up.
Unfortunately several months later Sam was diagnosed with leukaemia, but he continued to hope that one day he would meet his hero.
Blake was contacted in those early days, but unfortunately could not meet Sam personally due to the possibility of contamination. Instead Bilko sent a signed poster, hat and card to the little battler and according to mum Crysanne, Sam’s spirits and health improved greatly.
Today Sam still has a keen interest in motorcycles and closely follows Bilko’s many appearances, so when the family contacted Blake again recently asking if they could meet at long last, everything was arranged.
Unbeknownst to Sam, however, the meeting at Bilko’s home workshop in Victoria included a few other ‘guests’ including several of his fellow Crusty Demons mates who were staying with the Aussie FMX star.
“Adam Jones, Matt Schubring and all the boys visited with Sam, signed posters and had photos taken. Words were few but the smiles were broad,'' said Chrsyanne.
Bilko, who is currently in the USA for the Mini Moto Nationals in Las Vegas was proud to be a part of the day.
“I am so happy that I’m able to help young kids like Sam, even if it is to make them feel better in some small way,” he said.
Bilko is riding in three classes this year in Vegas including Stock 50 Pro 12'' and Pro 10''. Fans can catch Bilko as a guest interviewer for the event on MXTV when the new series season starts later this year on Foxtel/Austar, NBN 9 (NSW & QLD) and Channel 31.
