Australia’s Anthony Roberts will make his first appearance for Yamaha Motor Australia on an international stage on May 6-7 as he prepares to do battle at the second round of Maxxis World Enduro Championship.

Roberts, the current Yamaha Australian Off Road Championship point’s leader, flew out from Australia last night to prepare for his assault on the series as it heads to Guimaraes, Portugal, where a world class field will take on the demanding 50km circuit.

The bikes carry many of the improvements Roberts has been able to make in the Yamaha Australian Off Road series, as well as a new exhaust system from Araknophobic that has been developed .

Coming off the back of another national off-road round win, Roberts was enthusiastic at the prospect of demonstrating his ability in front of an international crowd.

“I must say Yamaha Netherlands have put a great deal of faith in me considering we have never worked together before or indeed never even met.

“It was fantastic to have raced and won round 2 of the Yamaha Australian Off Road Championship on the weekend as I really needed the time on the bike and more importantly, the race pressure to give me the best possible preparation for my world campaign.” Roberts concluded.

Excited to be assisting another talented Australian rider on the international stage Yamaha Motor Australia General Manager Steven Cotterell said Roberts’s sheer determination would see him perform well.

“We are pleased to be able to help AJ compete in the challenging World Enduro Championship where he'll be up against the best, including multi-world champion Stefan Merriman,” Cotterell said.

“Roberts is still on a learning curve at this level, but with his combination of skill and determination we are sure he will perform well," Cotterell concluded.

Roberts is entered in the Pro E2 class and will have to con-*test*-('") the event against 45 other riders from across the globe, all vying for their piece of world championship glory.

He will fly the flag for Australia alongside fellow countryman and four-time world champion Stefan Merriman.
